Datavisualisation

This datavisualisation accompanies the study “A fresh look at the Parisian metropolis through its quality of life”, which was undertaken by Apur in collaboration with Insee Ile-de-France and published in July 2015.
Quality of life in the Parisian metropolis can be measured using the individual characteristics of the inhabitants (income, housing and employment conditions…) together with other criteria relevant to living conditions in the territories, such as environment, transport and access to leisure facilities. 24 indicators covering eleven aspects of quality of life have revealed the strengths and weaknesses of the territories.
Air quality, cost of housing and availability of public transport seem to be the criteria which most differentiate these “territories of life”. Four types of territory with a particular profile can be identified in the Parisian metropolis.

  • Favourable working conditions in communes adjacent to the west of Paris and around the Forest of Vincennes.
  • In Paris, the benefits of ease of access outweigh good air quality
  • In the Eastern and Western communes close to the outer suburbs:  there are some territories which benefit from good air quality, green spaces and good housing, but they are less well served by public transport.
  • In the communes to the north-east of Paris, the north-west of the Hauts-de-Seine and bordering the Seine to the south of Paris: some of these territories benefit from affordable housing and good facilities, but are in difficulty.

The datavisualisation allows internet users to access a collection of maps and graphics illustrating the various aspects of quality of life in the territorial profile-types.
