Paris supports the process of urban development of Phnom Penh
Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris and President of the International Association of French-speaking Mayors (AIMF), met Socheatevong Pa, Governor of Phnom Penh on Friday, 10 October, 2015, to discuss cooperation between the two cities. Since 1993, Paris has supported the process of urban development of the Cambodian capital, which today has become a rapidly-expanding metropolis. Within the framework of its partnership programme, Apur has dedicated itself to international decentralised cooperation activities working together with the City of Paris General Delegation for International Relations (DGRI) and in cooperation with the French Ministry of European and Foreign Affairs and the French Development Agency. Between 1992 and 2009, Apur regularly lent its expertise to the City of Phnom Penh and its administration in the areas of urban management, policies for the development and restoration of the urban and architectural heritage, methodological support and training sessions for the creation of a traffic management plan for the city centre. These decentralised cooperation programmes between the cities of Paris and Phnom Penh supported by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have produced four publications coordinated and published by Apur, which bear witness to 20 years of collaboration between the technical teams of the two cities. The following are the publications Apur has brought out within the framework of its cooperation with Phnom Penh:
Apur has built up a rich documentary and iconographic resource during these missions. It is the subject of a new collaboration between the Agency and the Laboratory of the Paris Institute of Research: Architecture, Urban Design, Society (IPRAUS), who are publishing it their project: Notebooks on Asian Cities -Carnets de villes d’Asie- for which a compilation of archive sources and specialist documents is made(maps, photos and publications). To date, the maps contained in the publication “Phnom Penh, urban development and heritage” (1997) have been deposited. A previous agreement concerning the transmission of data has allowed the map library to make available geographical data (SIG) produced by Apur.
