International

For many years, the Apur has been developing international activities in the context of the City of Paris’ decentralised cooperation programmes or contracts with cities, governments or large institutions (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) or the European Commission.

These missions are varied, and include urban planning (local development projects, master plans, etc.), transport, heritage, institutional developments, assistance in setting up urban planningagencies, etc.

Decentralised cooperation

In the context of its partnership programme, the Apur devotes part of its budget (approximately 150 000 euros in recent years) to decentralised international cooperation activities under the aegis of the City of Paris’ General Directorate for Research and Innovation -DGRI- and in cooperation with the French Ministry for European and Foreign Affairs and the French Development Agency. Sometimes these cooperation programmes are extended by contracts.

International contracts
In the 1990’s, the Apur fulfilled several contracts through European funding. In the past 10 years, territories and partners have become more diversified. These contracts either follow on from decentralised cooperation programmes carried out by the City of Paris or are won by the Apur in response to international calls for tender.

Partnership networks
The Apur is part of many different partnership networks, including private operators and local authorities and represents the Parisian presence in multilateral projects. Since 1999, the Apur is a member of the Club export AFIGEO, an organisation to promote French expertise in the field of Geographic Information Systems and the creation of cartography tools.

Attending conferences and international events

The Apur contributed to organising the conference “Paris Île-de-France : a River, a Territory, a Way of Life”, held in July 2010 at the Shanghai World Expo.

Receiving foreign delegations
The City of Paris is often called upon by representatives of other foreign cities or States who wish to gather information and learn from the management and urban development practices implemented in the French capital.
In this context, the Apur is an important intermediary in the programme of visits from these delegations. It organises presentations adapted to the profile of its visitors:

  • presentations of a general nature about the history of urban planning in Paris and the major projects that have characterised the capital’s development.
  • visits to significant sites illustrating the policies of urban renewal, restoration or restructuring.
  • presentations of technical tools used by the Apur, especially its urban databank and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
