The Grand Paris metropolis had 6,695,233 inhabitants on January 1st, 2011 as against 6,507,781 in 2006.
The metropolitan population therefore increased by 187,452 between 2006 – 2011, showing an increase of 37,490 inhabitants per year, i.e. an annual growth rate of 0.6%.
This increase is consistent with that which was already measured in the period 1999 – 2005, during which the annual rate of growth was 0.8%. In 2012, the metropolis represented 56% of the population of Ile-de-France and made up 58% of its population increase.
The four departments and a large majority of the communes and districts which make up the metropolis have contributed to its population increase.
