The city of Medellin has been developing  ‘social urbanism’ for several years within the framework of ‘Integrated Urban Projects’ which has succeeded in transforming the urban and social landscape of the city and improving the living conditions of the inhabitants of a large number of working class neighbourhoods.

The city of Medellin would now like these actions to be included in a coherent, global, metropolitan- scale vision for the future and hereby intend to create a blueprint entitled the ‘Medellin BIO 2030 plan’.

Wanting to create a closer relationship with France, Medellin City Council is hoping for some financial support from the French Development Agency  – AFD - and also a technical co-operation programme in the field of urbanism.

This technical support is aimed at consolidating the development model and adapting it in the face of challenges to come over the next twenty years. It is in this context that the French Development Agency has asked the Paris Urbanism Agency (Apur) to set up a partnership co-operation between the urbanism teams of the city of Medellin, the Area Metropolitana and the university team of Urbam in charge of the development strategy of ‘Medellin BIO 2030’.
