The economic fabric of the station neighbourhoods along the extension of the Grand Paris metro Line 14

The Metro Line 14 is going to be extended within the framework of the Grand Paris Express transport project (GPE). The extension will see the building of twelve extra stations, some of which will interconnect: five stations in the north, from Saint-Denis Pleyel to Pont Cardinet, and seven in the south from Maison Blanche Paris XIIIe to Aéroport d’Orly. The impact of this extension will be significant not only in the station neighbourhoods concerned, but will also considerably improve accessibility to Saint-Denis Pleyel in the north and to the MIN (MIN Porte de Thiais station) and to Orly Airport in the south.

In 2012, the twelve future station neighbourhoods contained 172,900 employees, of which 60% were in the neighbourhoods of the northern section. These neighbourhoods are characterised by a having diverse economic fabric. The southern section station neighbourhoods are more specialised, in particular the three most southerly neighbourhoods, essentially orientated towards support functions (wholesale business and air transport), and the two neighbourhoods of Kremlin-Bicêtre Hôpital and Villejuif Institut Gustave Roussy which specialise in hospital-related activities. Over the last fifteen years, Saint-Denis Pleyel station neighbourhood has been the most dynamic in terms of construction, mainly of offices.
