Following the completion of the 2002-2010 plan to reduce the amount of substandard housing, the preventative measures initiated in 2008 are still in force today. The aim is to prevent both old and new buildings in Paris from gradually falling into a state of unsanitary disrepair.
As in previous years, a statistical analysis has been produced which is intended to pinpoint the weaknesses in Parisian buildings using indicators such as the proportion of small rented housing, health and safety warnings issued, lead exposure diagnoses, the extent of demand for social housing, buildings with unpaid water bills, as well as the presence of termites and apartment blocks which have been converted from hotels providing social accommodation. This leads to buildings being graded according to their risk of deterioration.
In 2015 this work brought to light 344 old buildings showing signs of degradation. They are for the most part co-owned buildings in the north-eastern districts of Paris (10th, 11th, 18th, 19th and 20th). These measures form part of the monitoring and preventative operational procedure whose statistical evidence serves so that administrative action can be taken as early as possible.
