Social developments in Paris and three departments in the inner ring of suburbs
This report shows the major social changes which have taken place in Paris and three of the departments of the inner suburbs in recent years.
The population has continued to grow in the centre of the Parisian conurbation. This is mainly due to  a rise in the birth-rate and an increasing number of main residences, as well as to the size of households becoming stable.
The level of employment went up during the years 2010 and 2011 in the centre of the conurbation and in Île-de-France as a whole. This positive evolution which  followed the falling trends of the years 2008 and 2009 was nevertheless not enough to curb the rise in unemployment and the number of people claiming minimal  social benefit.
The median tax revenue of households increased slightly between 2008 and 2010 in four departments, even with inflation taken into account. However the rise was greater in the Haut-de-Seine and Paris compared with Val-de-Marne and especially Seine Saint Denis where there was no reduction in the social gaps and the inequality of income levels was maintained within the territory.
