In the heart of the Latin quarter, the 1.5 km long Boulevard Saint-Michel, has long been a very attractive Parisian thoroughfare, especially at the lower section between the river Seine and Boulevard Saint-Germain and even in the middle section up to rue Soufflot.
However for the past decade or so, commercial difficulties have emerged, resulting in a growing number of vacant premises along the boulevard, despite the area's excellent public transport services (metro line 4, RER B and C at Place Saint-Michel, Luxembourg et Port-Royal for RER B, numerous bus lines: 21, 27, 38, 82, N14, N21, N122, N123).
The commercial analysis of the boulevard focuses on describing and categorising the changes according to types of businesses, comparing them with other thoroughfares in Paris, specifying the types of premises, their owners and the rental prices observed. Finally, the analysis highlights the changes in commercial activity and the footfall in public spaces, the public transport networks and the local developments in terms of the population, housing and office premises.
