APIs : From Legacy to Agile, From Product to Ecosystems

Not so long ago, the competition was product vs product. Now, it has shifted to platform vs platform. And tomorrow, it will be ecosystem vs ecosystem. As we have entered a world of open IT and extended enterprises, APIs strategies, API designs, and API lifecycle management will be the unfair advantage to create and nurture the business of ecosystems.

In 2000 you needed a website to enter the digital economy. In 2010 you needed a mobile app to enter the mobile economy. In 2020 you’ll need APIs to enter the programmable economy. Since the Jeff Bezos mandate that stated “all APIs without exceptions must be designed from the ground up to be externalizable, no exceptions”, many companies such as Amazon or Netflix have demonstrated that an API-driven strategy coupled with an API-driven development is the way to support scalable businesses. Not only APIs have now become products, enabling distribution to developers at a digital scale, they also deliver outstanding business values and create new revenue generation stream for businesses to what we call the API economy. This has been demonstrated by companies like Stripe or Twilio, reaching a valuation of up to $22Bn.

Dominique Alba, Director General of Apur, will present the point of view of the architect on December 10th between 9am and 10.30am.
