The Night of Solidarity enables a "snapshot" to be taken of the number of homeless people in a given area at a given time. The aim is to gain a better understanding of the profiles and needs of people with no accommodation solution, so that public policies can be adapted in response. Counting the people met during the operation forms a minimum number.
Since the first Night of Solidarity in 2018, the Paris Urbanism Agency, Apur, has accompanied the initiative in its preparatory stages, making maps depicting the numbers of people counted and analysing the results.
The 8th Night of Solidarity in Paris took place on the night of the 23rd to 24th January 2025. Nearly 2,000 volunteers and professionals participated. 357 sectors were explored, as well as specific sectors covered in coordination with the relevant partners (Emergency exits and banks of the Périphérique ring-road, the woods Bois de Vincennes and Bois de Boulogne, car parks, parks and gardens, AP-HP hospitals, SNCF railway stations, RATP metro and RER stations).
The first count established a total of 3507 homeless people counted in Paris on the Night of 23rd to 24th January 2025. Following a decrease in the number of people with no shelter during the health crisis, their numbers have been rising once again since 2023. The number of people counted on 23rd January 2025 is close to that of the 2024 count.
The geographic whereabouts of people met shows they are present in all Parisian districts with a higher concentration in Central Paris and in the 10th and 12th (including the Bois de Vincennes), 15th, 18th and 19th districts.
Seven out of ten people were met in the streets of Paris and three our of ten in other types of spaces. The majority were men, while 14% were women.
These initial results will be consolidated by the summer 2025 and form the basis of a study on the subject.
