Ads and rentals in Paris on the Airbnb site in February 2021

This map is based on data from the InsideAirbnb site, which provides information extracted from the Airbnb booking site (by “scrapping”), which is the dominant player in the Parisian market for furnished rentals for tourist. In February 2021, after almost a year of the health crisis linked to Covid-19, the number of ads on the Airbnb site had decreased only slightly (-2% ads between February 2020 and February 2021). However, fewer ads received reviews during the year, indicating a sharp decline in activity compared with the previous year. Peripheral districts seem to have been particularly affected by this decrease of activity during the health crisis, while central districts continued to concentrate a significant part of activity.

In February 2020, over 458,000 reviews had been left during the previous 12 months (between February 2019 and February 2020) and 37,756 ads had received at least one review (i.e. 58% of ads). A year later, in February 2021, 106,000 reviews had been left during the previous 12 months (between February 2020 and February 2021) and only 19,541 ads had received at least one review (that is 31% of ads). In short, fewer accommodation units were rented out on Airbnb, and those that were, were rented less often. On the other hand, the near-stability of the number of ads between February 2020 and February 2021, combined with the increasing concentration and professionalisation of the sector during this period, seems to indicate that renters anticipate a recovery of activity in the near future.
