By mapping the existing and lost streams and rivers a legacy has been revealed as well as potential watercourses where the presence of water could be reinforced.
With a hydraulic network made up of rivers, streams and canals, visible waterways in Grand Paris Metropolis are estimated to extend for 219 km (Seine, Marne, Orge, Yvette, Yerres, Réveillon…). The cartographic portrayal of old rivers and their catchment basins makes it possible to estimate that another 190 km were still visible in 1900.Some of these rivers have been restored in recent years and others could be in the near or medium term future. This is the case for the Bièvre in Seine Amont, Croult, Petit-Rosne, Sausset, Vieille-Mer, ru d’Arras, Morbras… and small rivers in the Parisian woods.
