In 2020, 2.2 million of the working population in Grand Paris had office jobs. This represented 55% of all jobs (4 million). Since 2009, the number of office jobs had risen by 7.6% while during that time, the entire surface area of offices rose slightly more quickly (+10.6% between 2009 and 2020).
The map shows the gap between the development of office jobs and that of office surface area during the same period (2009-2020). In the Paris Central Business District, office jobs increased more rapidly than office space. However, for the municipal Communes of Paris Ouest La Défense, Plaine Commune and Est Ensemble, the proportion of office space coming onto the market was greater than the increase in office jobs. The possible consequences of this imbalance being: pressure put on office rents which were rising in the tense areas of central Paris and a rise of vacant offices in certain areas of the suburbs on the outskirts of Paris.
