The number of inhabitants and jobs is fairly equally balanced within Greater Paris - Grand Paris Metropolis : 3.9 million jobs for 3.6 million working-age adults. Approximately 308,000 metropolitan inhabitants work outside the metropolitan territory while 1 million people work in the metropolis who are not residents there. The human density thus brought together by those living and those working reaches an average of 135 people per hectare in the metropolis compared with a density of 6 people per hectare in the rest of the Ile-de-France region. The map shows human density on the Grand Paris Metropolis IRIS scale. It is unevenly distributed through the metropolitan territory with the central area of Paris and its neighbouring municipalities being the most dense, corresponding to maps of the population and job density. In central Parisian neighbourhoods, at La Défense and in Hauts-de-Seine, human density is particularly high with more than 1,000 people per hectare during the day, made up of both those working and residents.
