The criteria for well-being and the city’s quality cover several fields, among which the generosity and quality of public space once again take centre stage.

Public spaces like the built-up spaces that surround them and from which they cannot be dissociated , contribute to the urban landscape of a city.

They provide accessibility and services and are also spaces where local life and practices take place and are supported. For example, public space covers, 27% of the surface area of Paris and the parks, gardens and woods 17% (7% excluding the woods).

The pandemic and lockdown periods have shown the need for nature in spaces, which has prompted many communities and local authorities to greatly increase the planting and greening of public space, to open existing inaccessible gardens and to consider the creation of new parks as part of every project put in place.
