The social housing stock coming under the SRU (Solidarity and Urban Renewal) law in the Metropolis consisted of 916,575 housing units on 1st January 2019, according to the data of SRU inventories, i.e. approximately 28% of main residences in the Metropolis.
Territories with the highest number of these SRU social housing units were Paris (which concentrated within its boundaries 27% of SRU law social housing within the Metropolis), followed by Grand Orly Seine Bièvre (12% of the stock), Plaine Commune (9 %) and Est Ensemble (8 %).

In the Greater Paris - Grand Paris Metropolis -, the spatial distribution of the social stock under the SRU law was unbalanced between territories and municipal communes. These imbalances were long-standing and have prove difficult to resolve despite the pressure of the SRU law and the concerted political efforts.
