For many years now, temporary or ephemeral urbanism has been spreading and is widely practiced.
This map identifies 124 temporary urbanism spaces open in Grand Paris at the beginning of 2023. The listing was based on pre-existing maps which were updated by adding feedback from key players and information from documentary research. The project includes a variety of sites and various different contexts which are particularly marked by the diversity of operators and activities. Their life-span can last from a few months to several years. They share a wide range of mixed uses, not only in terms of sharing space but also of complimentary uses, very often including a solidarity, artistic or cultural dimension.
The map legend represents sites classified according to their main activity:
- 31 projects are classified as “Art, cultural, creative”
- 31 projects as “Accommodation, social action, solidarity”
- 22 projects as “Offices, co-working, crafts”
- 11 projects as “Cafes, restaurants, shops”
- 7 projects are classified as “Agriculture, vegetable gardens, gardens”.
When at least two main activities are identified, projects are presented as “Mixed” (22 projects).
Producing the map also made it possible to highlight that roughly the same number of venues had closed in recent years (a total of 145), confirming the ephemeral nature of most of these projects. 10 future projects have also been identified. The shaded blocks represent sectors where urban projects are underway or being studied for which temporary urban projects could play a precursory role.
