In 2024, the number of furnished rentals reached an all-time record in Paris and Grand Paris. This short-term accommodation, rented out through platforms like Airbnb, Abritel and Booking, offers various options: from main residences rented out occasionally to accommodation entirely dedicated to the business of furnished holiday rentals.
The significant rise in furnished tourist rentals in Grand Paris following Covid, accelerated in 2024 in conjunction with the Olympic Games. The extent of this growth varied in different areas, linked to their attractiveness to tourists, the quality of transport services and the regulations in force. According to Inside Airbnb data, 149,936 advertisements proposed rentals on the Airbnb website alone in one of the Grand Paris municipalities in August 2024, of which 124,988 were vacant, that is to say open for booking. The offer is highly concentrated in Paris (61 % of the total supply) and in adjacent municipalities. During the summer of 2024 the offer reached a peak: +84% compared with August 2023.
The analysis also brings to light the more long-term dynamics, including the spread of the offer throughout the metropolitan area and a professionalisation of the activity.
