This dataset includes two complementary layers for locating and describing protected or listed heritage in Paris and the communes of the Petite Couronne (Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne):
- protective perimeters, corresponding to regulatory zones or zones identified as having heritage value;
- and protected buildings or objects, on a parcel-by-parcel or spot-by-spot basis.
The aim of this database is to provide a consolidated view of existing heritage protection schemes: national protection (Historic Monuments, Outstanding Heritage Sites, Unesco properties), local protection (listing in PLUs, garden cities) and specific inventories (ACR label - outstanding contemporary architecture, Apur or IPR listings). It combines heterogeneous sources, both statutory and derived from expert work.
This data is a useful reference for urban planning, producing territorial diagnoses and taking heritage into account in development projects. It is also used in studies to enhance the value of old buildings or heritage conversion, and can be used to combine morphological, historical and environmental approaches.
Technical details
Main variables for protection perimeters (surface representation)
This layer groups together polygons representing zones linked to a heritage value, whether regulatory (protection under MH, SPR, etc.) or resulting from surveys (Apur, Institut Paris-Région, Ville de Paris). These perimeters make it possible to visualise the outlines of sites to be protected or enhanced at different scales.
- Type of perimeter: Historic monuments (protected areas, surroundings), outstanding heritage sites, garden cities, UNESCO properties, nature parks, RCAs, etc.
- Origin of protection: State, local authority, research body (Apur, IPR, etc.)
- Type of protection: regulatory or non-regulatory
- Perimeter name
- Hierarchy or level of classification (listed, classified, labelled, listed)
- Year of protection (if known)
For more technical information, please consult the detailed sheet on the Geocatalogue.
Main variables for protected buildings (surface representation)
This layer includes buildings or plots of land that have been explicitly protected or listed for heritage purposes. Each entity corresponds to an object identified in an inventory, a PLU, a national database or a local listing.
- Organisation behind the protection
- Type of protection: Historic monument, protection under the PLU, ACR, Unesco property, garden city, etc.
For more technical information, see the detailed Geocatalogue file.
Sources
The database has been constructed from cross-referenced sources, combining regulatory data, town planning documents and specialist inventories:
The protection perimeters come mainly from :
- the Mérimée database (Ministry of Culture),
- graphic documents of the PLU of Paris and 124 communes of the Petite Couronne,
- surveys carried out by the Apur, the IPR and other partners.
Protected buildings have been extracted or digitised from :
- the Mérimée database (Monuments Historiques),
- protection included in the PLU,
- architectural analysis documents (ACR sheets, garden cities, 20th century heritage),
- cartographic or photographic surveys.
The geometries have been harmonised with the Apur's built environment to ensure spatial consistency and coherent contours. This work is part of the Apur's ongoing mission to observe and understand the territory.
