2 November 2015 - A datavisualisation to illustrate the quality of life in the Parisian metropolis

Datavisualisation - Quality of life in the Grand Paris metropolis
This datavisualisation accompanies the study “A fresh look at the Parisian metropolis through its quality of life” carried out by Apur  in collaboration with the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies, INSEE Ile-de-France and published in July 2015.
The quality of life in the Parisian metropolis can be assessed by looking at certain individual characteristics of its inhabitants (income, housing conditions and employment combined with other criteria linked to a territory’s living conditions such as the environment, transport, access to leisure facilities.
Twenty or so indicators covering eleven aspects of the quality of life have shed light on the advantages and weaknesses of districts within Paris and the communes of the inner ring of suburbs.
Air quality, the cost of housing and availability of public transport appear as criteria which differentiate these living territories the most. Four territorial profile-types can be seen in the Parisian territory.
The datavisualisation presents a group of maps and graphics to internet users which illustrate the different dimensions of the quality of life in the territory’s various profile-types.
Apart from the income gap, the central territories with good public transport services, offering easy access to facilities and jobs stand out as very different from other less centralised territories which offer better housing conditions and better air quality.
