24 September 2015 - Publication of a datavisualisation tool of the Observatory of Grand Paris station neighbourhoods

datavisualisation tool of the Observatory of Grand Paris station neighbourhoods
The Paris Urbanism Agency (APUR) has just produced, in collaboration with the Grand Paris Express company -Societé du Grand Paris- (SGP) and the Ile-de-France Regional and Interdepartmental Department  of Infrastructures and Development (DRIEA), a datavisualisation tool which makes it possible to discover the Observatory of Grand Paris station neighbourhoods in a dynamic and interactive way.
The observatory is a tool for increasing awareness and  analysing the characteristics of the future Grand Paris stations and to follow their evolution.
Observation is carried out on two levels:
  • A cross-analysis of all the station neighbourhoods of a line allowing each station neighbourhood to be compared the one with the others.
  • Monographs which give a detailed description of each station neighbourhood’s characteristics, placing it in its surrounding environment within the communes affected by the arrival of new stations and also in the rest of the inner ring of suburbs.
The monographs on each station neighbourhood, as well as the cross-analysis of each line can now be visualised by clicking directly on the map or on the menu bar on the right.  Net surfers can discover a selection of maps and will be able to easily download any of the fifty analyses already made.
A specific section brings together themed studies which have already been published, such as cultural venues in the metropolis and the economic fabric of station neighbourhoods along Line 15 south.
The Observatory of Grand Paris station neighbourhoods
The Observatory of Grand Paris station neighbourhoods presents a detailed, factual description of all the future station neighbourhoods of the RGPE (Grand Paris Express Network) and compares them using the following six headings: densities, centralities, the urban and landscape environment, the demographic and social profile of the population living in the station neighbourhoods, mobility and public space and the dynamics of construction and projects. These analyses compare the neighbourhoods one with the other and also in relation to their position within the commune.
So far, the following have been published:
  • the cross-analysis of Lines 14, 15 south, 15 west and 16
  • about 40 monographs on the station neighbourhoods situated along Lines 14, 15 south, 16 and part of the neighbourhoods along Line 15 west
By the end of 2015, the other stations along Line 15 west and Line 15 east will be added. The work will continue into the first quarter of 2016 with the analyses of Lines 17 and 18.
The work of the Observatory has increased our understanding of these territories. The cross-analysis has confirmed the great diversity of situations observed in the station neighbourhoods. It has supplied the facts necessary to manage the changes and transformations brought about by the arrival of the Grand Paris Express Network. It has assisted in the decision-making process of the local authorities and key players concerned.
Complementary themed studies carried out by the Observatory
  • atlas of cultural spaces published in July 2015 by Apur, the Regional Department of Cultural Affairs (DRAC), and the Grand Paris Transport and Development Organisation (SGP) which has revealed an existing network rich in diversity which should continue to flourish as a result of the improved accessibility provided by the new metro.
  • an analysis of the economic fabric  of the station neighbourhoods along Line 15 south undertaken by Apur, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE) and the Grand Paris Transport and Development Organisation (SGP) has revealed the concentration of employment and the economic characteristics of each neighbourhood (tertiary activities, public services, industrial operations…).
By the end of 2015, a study on the provision of healthcare analysed with the Regional Health Authority (ARS) and at the beginning of 2016 an analysis of the economic fabric of the station neighbourhoods along Lines 14, 15 west, 15 east and 16 will be added.
