30 September 2014 – Open data and Dataviz at Apur

Apur occupies a central position in the production, assimilation and diffusion of data on Paris and its metropolis. Apur is keen to subscribe to the City of Paris municipal initiative of making as much data as possible available to all potential users, and is now committed to using open data and is developing datavisualisation (dataviz) in order to become more interactive.
Open data
Up until recently, data was available on an FTP site dedicated to Apur partners and, by agreement, to public institutions, in particular universities. Certain data was supplied free to the public on written request.
From now on, all free data will be downloadable from the site https://www.apur.org in different formats (shapefile L93, GeoJSON), although their re-use will need to respect the OpenDatabase License (held by the City) which will be forwarded with the datasets. The whole catalogue of data is downloadable from the Apur website https://www.apur.org.
What is available now:
1/ Data with the following references:
- Administrative boundaries of communes, departments and the Public Institute of Inter-communal Collaboration, EPCI (regional level)
- Administrative boundaries of districts in Paris
- Chart showing bodies of water (regional level)
Including from December 2014:
- Road networks, physical and statistical housing blocks (Paris and inner suburbs)
- Land occupation of public facilities and temporary facilities (Paris and inner suburbs)
- Rail network (regional level)
- Building volume (Paris)
2/ Transport database: a first and essential tool for key players in the metropolis
With this database available in open data, the existing and future public transport network has at last been brought together for the first time. It comprises:
- the whole of the Greater Paris network, including the sections planned post-2030, according to data put out by the SGP - Société du Grand Paris - which is updated annually.
- all other projects planned between now and 2030: RER, extensions to the metro, tangential / tram-trains, tramways and public transport with dedicated routes -TCSP / Tzen.
This database identifies:
- The name, route, type and stations (unrepresented stations for the TSCP),
- The anticipated operational date if known,
- The current situation (under construction, being studied or under consideration),
- The means of transport,
- The technology (rail, tyre…),
- The overseeing body (STIF, SGP…),
- The official documents in which the project is registered (action plan, PDUIF, SDRIF, New Greater Paris -Nouveau Grand Paris-).
 Dataviz
Within the framework of its partnership work programme and studies linked to the metropolitan territory, Apur is offering a datavisualisation tool which will make it possible to test out scenarios of the make up of territories with a minimum of 300,000 inhabitants, conforming to the Law on the Modernisation of Public Action in Territories and Assertive Metropolises (MAPAM)- la loi de modernisation de l'action publique territoriale et d'affirmation des métropoles - (MAPAM).
The tool shows the state of present intercommunalities already above the minimum limit and makes it possible to create and save different compositions and scenarios.
It is hoped that this useful tool will contribute to an understanding of territories for everybody concerned – key players and general public alike, and prefigure the improvement of cartographic tools which Apur is intending to undertake in the coming years.
Maps produced by users with this application will not be accepted as Apur productions.
