32nd Annual Meeting of Urbanism Agencies

18th, 19th and 20th October 2011

Parc de la Villette, Espace Charlie Parker in the Grande Halle, Paris 19e

At a time when large metropolitan conurbations are emerging from the last territorial reform brought in by the Government, governance of territories is more than ever a central area of activity for key players.

The urbanism agencies, members of the National Federation (FNAU) have decided to address the subject directly during their 32nd Annual Meeting organised by the Paris Urbanism Agency (Apur).

Structured around issues of a territorial scale and engineering tools, the event, which expects over a thousand participants (city professionals from diverse fields),  will focus on projects and initiatives which extend, embody -even contradict- the the many ways of comprehending the old but still fruitful notion  of governance.

Two plenary assemblies will give representatives of public authorities and universities and «major  witnesses   -grands témoins-” time to deal with the subject fully and consider it from all its various angles.

Michel Lussault the geographer, President of PRES (higher education research department) in Lyon, member of the forward planning groupe of Datar, who co-chaired the scientific council at the international consultation conference “The gamble of developing Greater Paris - le Grand Pari(s) de l'agglomération parisienne", will take over the opening of the meeting after Vincent Feltesse the President of the FNAU – and  Anne Hidalgo the President of Apur, First Deputy Mayor of Paris, in the presence of Benoist Apparu, Secretary of State for Housing.

Two round tables will conclude the Meeting on Thursday 20th October, bringing together on one of them,  government representatives, the urbanism agencies and “witnesses”, and on the other, representatives of public authorities. The debates will be chaired by Stéphane Paoli.

On Wednesday 19th October, workshop-visits will allow participants to discover the Parisian metropolis' numerous projects on site in the Îl-de-France, the Parisian Basin and going as far afield as Amiens. They will question the steering methods which associate a great number of diverse key players.

The Meeting equally aims to give space to agencies' know-how by running professional workshops in the afternoon of Thursday 20th October. These will focus on the evolution of jobs, practices and the skills involved in urban engineering.
