4th December 2015 – Paris 2050, climate air & energy

Paris 2050, climate air & energy
Inventing Paris today, with 2050 on the horizon - adapting cities to climate change !
For the event of COP21, the Paris Urbanism Agency published a collection of works, started in 2013 called “A climate, air and energy plan for Paris and the metropolis”. These online works are accompanied by a dataviz enabling everyone to view their neighbourhood resources, and the publishing of a large map “ Paris 2050 illus-trating the directions to take.
This work will be presented to the public during the Open day on the esplanade in front of City Hall-  Hôtel de Ville -  in the Pavillon Circulaire 10th December from 11a.m. to 7p.m..
Apur's multi-criteria approach offers keys to address flexibly and successfully manage this transformation. The studies and map made of Paris and Métropole du Grand Paris, offer solutions to successfully adapt our cities and towns to climate change: with specific action, sometimes very simple to initiate, such as pooling resources of heating networks and thermal exchanges between buildings, transforming our roads, benefiting from exposure to air and sun, thermal exchanges between clean and untreated water, often warmer. It's also a question of inno-vation and inventing ways to take advantage of underground heat, cool terraces, using the potential of what's already there, recycling not only waste, but also used and worn-out items and finding new resources in the city which can contribute to feeding and to the health and welfare of its citizens.
The maps are on all scales, and examples are given of resources which will enable us to achieve the objectives of massively reducing electricity consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
The “Paris 2050” map demonstrates the potentialities and transformations. Three Parisian street blocks serve as an example.  Brief texts and illustrations target spheres for future action: to find ways within the capital to in-crease it's own energy and food resourcing, to adapt the city to heat waves, master electric transport and stimu-late a circular economy...  Contributing to COP21, this map shows the efficiency of sharing the actions of each and everyone of us.
This work has been carried out with numerous partners including departments of the City of Paris (notably, the Department of Roads and Transport, the Department of Sanitation and Water, and the Department for Green spaces and the Environment), as well as the Paris Climate Agency.
