In this note the first observations are made of the most recent population count announced at the end of 2022 of Grand Paris Metropolis, it includes a focus on Paris.

On 1st January 2020, 7,086,619 people were living in Grand Paris Metropolis. From 2014 to 2020, the population of the Metropolis increased, on an average of 14,600 people per year, that is an annual increase of +0,2%, a rate which is twice as slow as during the previous period (+0,4%).
This decline of the population growth is mainly due to the decrease in the population in Paris and the stability of that west of Paris, Paris Ouest La Défense (T4). Within the Metropolis, the growth of the population is mainly to be found in the Plaine Commune territory (T6), Est Ensemble (T8), Paris Terres d’Envol (T7) located in the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis and also in the Grand-Orly Seine Bièvre territory (T12).
With the number of people leaving the Metropolis remaining much higher than that of arrivals, the growth of the Metropolitan population is maintained exclusively by the excess of births compared to that of deaths.
