70000 new housing units

Figure of the month : 70000 is the number of new housing units

70000 : is the number of new housing units that the Government fixed as its annual construction objective in Île-de-France in June 2011 in the first clause of the bill dealing with Grand Paris which plans the “Territorialisation of the Housing Stock”.

Paris Métropole, with the support of Apur and the IAU Île-de-France, has set up an inquiry among property owners to gather information with which to analyse whether the housing projects located on their territory are realistic,  to quantify them and to gauge the supplementary means needed to optimise the development of building new housing.

Thanks to the response of 95 municipalities and the public inter-municipal co-operation establishment -EPCI-, this inquiry has enabled clear and instructive conclusions to be drawn regarding the effort still needed to address the persisting housing crisis. It is, however, a fact that even though the building objectives included in the Local Housing and Urbanism plans the -PLH and PLU-  of the authorities which support Grand Paris are ambitious and show an increase of 53%  compared with the  rhythm of building which took place in the decade 2000-2010, they are still far behind the Government objectives -TOL- (an increase of 43% remains to be made).
