2050 is the fixed date by which the city will be carbon neutral, recycling waste, with an improved water system, organising logistics differently and having access to renewable energy resources. To reach these objectives commits us to a double revolution which is both industrial and cultural.

In this challenging context, Apur has undertaken to produce the first atlas of the major metropolitan systems in liaisons with all the key players among which Apur’s partners are in the forefront.

This first atlas brings together analyses dealing with logistics, water and sanitation, energy and waste.

A second volume will deal with the themes of digital networks, universities, health and cemeteries.

The Atlas of the major metropolitan systems paints a portrait of these systems in their present state as well as their recent developments and the current tendencies underway. The huge amount knowledge to be shared has led to the document being carried out in two stages and numerous chapters. This allows for detailed awareness of each subject, the present situation and present tendencies, but also gives room to the more complex work, essential for future developments which will see these services redefining their industrial systems in favour of shared network systems, on different scales and closely dependent on the diverse urban contexts that the metropolis offers.

It is a question of building and sharing a new approach to these services which is more mindful of resources, associating them globally and locally. This renewed approach is founded on those who use the services as much as on the industrial tools of a living heritage, in anticipation of future developments and the necessary spaces linked to the evolution of the metropolitan territories.
