In order to accompany the organisation of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris and to prepare the heritage they will bring to territories, a Convention of Co-operation between the City of Paris, the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis and Public Territorial Establishments of Pleine Commune, Est Ensemble, Paris Terre d’Envol and Grand Paris Grand Est was established in June 2016. In order to accelerate the bringing together of Paris and Seine-Saint-Denis, one of the initiatives aims to reinforce the cycling and pedestrian networks between the Department and Paris with the objective of being serviceable and connecting the future Olympic sites and major structuring infrastructures.

The re-examination of data on cycling facilities has been carried out in cooperation with communes and territories. A bikeway linking the Olympic and Paralympic sites, major structuring infrastructures running through the territories of Paris and Seine-Saint-Denis, called “Olympic Boucles Cyclables ”, has been defined within the territories and municipalities based on the places needing the service as well as the existing network of cycling paths. The project of Olympic Boucles Cyclables aims to give cycling greater visibility and to accelerate the creation of the missing bikeway links. This work continue in collaboration with the municipalities involved in order to identify, in detail, the stretches of road where bikeways are discontinued, the nature of the development projects to be undertaken and the roads to be given priority.
