The Cycling Circuits Project, studied in the context of the Olympic Games Agreement between Paris and Seine-Saint-Denis, aims to give greater visibility to bicycle riding and to consolidate the cycle path network by 2024.
The 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games are unique, no only as a sports event, but as an opportunity to leave a common legacy for inhabitants and as an accelerator of public policies. With this in mind, Paris and Seine-Saint-Denis established an Olympic Games Agreement which will link them until 2024 and aims to intensify the relationship between the two areas through urban facility and development projects that will serve the population. This is the context in which the Cycle Circuit Project finds its place. It aims to connect Olympic and Paralympic sites rendering them accessible during the Games and also to create a continuous cycle path that will encourage people to ride bicycles in their everyday life and as a recreational activity.
The study, carried out with the City of Paris, the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis and the 4 Public Territorial Establishments (EPT ): Est Ensemble, Grand Paris Grand Est, Paris Terres d’Envol and Plaine Commune, recalls the principles which contributed to the mapping out of the cycling circuits and presents the current situation of their implementation and planned development projects. It also puts forward the first elements which will contribute to the success of the project, providing services for cyclists and the promotion and visibility of the cycling circuits.
The cycling circuits contribute to setting up a metropolitan cycle network, a process which is currently gaining momentum in response to mobility issues linked to the health crisis.
