The economic fabric of the station neighbourhoods along Grand Paris Metro L16

The future Grand Paris Express Line 16 will connect Saint-Denis-Pleyel with Noisy-Champs, i.e. ten neighbourhoods situated at the centre of contrasting and for the most part low-density types of urban fabric.
In 2012, 68,600 people were employed in the station neighbourhoods along this line, of which half were in Saint-Denis-Pleyel. This station neighbourhood is the only one on Line 16 to offer a large number of senior executive jobs in the tertiary sector.
Six of the other neighbourhoods, which are mostly residential, have a profile showing a concentration of jobs in the public sector and three have a more diverse economic fabric, with a majority of jobs in manufacturing and support and in trade and local services. This difference between Saint-Denis-Pleyel and the other neighbourhoods along the future Line 16 has been increased by the dynamism of the construction industry in the Saint-Denis sector. All the same, the arrival of the Grand Paris Express in 2023 – 2024 may act as an economic development lever for all the territories served by Line 16.
This study follows on from the analyses of the economic fabric of Lines 15 south and west, and contains new information concerning the current economic fabric of the station neighbourhoods along Line 16, helping to measure the kind of impact the Grand Paris Express Network (RGPE) will have on the neighbourhoods which will accommodate the new stations. It was undertaken in collaboration with Insee (National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies) as a continuation of the work of the Grand Paris station neighbourhoods Observatory, with the aim of providing an economic profile of the territory by completing the analyses already made of the demographic, social and urban factors.
