Four Grand Paris Express station neighbourhoods and their centralities

With the arrival of the Grand Paris Express by 2025 in the first four stations, the designing of public spaces around the stations and the setting up of shops are a major challenge for the development of these neighbourhoods.

An account of Paris Dauphine student workshops - PSL 2019-2020

This note is the result of work carried out in 2020 by Master 2 students in Urban Policy and Territorial Governance at Paris Dauphine University - PSL which was followed by the Société du Grand Paris and Apur. It proposes a comparison of the conditions for animation in the future station neighbourhoods of Arcueil-Cachan (line 15 South), Mairie de Saint-Ouen (line 14 North), La Courneuve Six-Routes (lines 16 and 17) and Villejuif Institut Gustave-Roussy (lines 14 and 15 South) taking into account the specific, local contexts of each, both from a spatial and a socio-economic point of view.

What emerges is the important role of joining the gaps in the urban fabric that these new centralities will play, by proposing developments that eliminate the physical breaks and bring a sharing of public space that includes all sectors of the public and uses, and decreases socio-spatial divisions. The analysis also reminds us of the importance of a commercial programme that is attentive to the existing local offer, by working notably on the routes between centralities and commercial outlets to be reached and the micro-centralities along the way. It also emphasises the importance of green spaces, which by their enhancement and accessibility, contribute to the animation and quality of future station neighbourhoods.
