The Green Belt Sports Trail, a facility accessible to everybody, is developing sports activities, access to culture and bio-diversity in public space.
The Green Belt Sports Trail is one of the initiatives of the heritage strategy for the Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in Paris in 2024.
The Green Belt Sports Trail project which extends 40 km offers numerous advantages and has great potential. It serves the Olympic competition sites such as Jean-Bouin Stadium, Parc des Princes, Roland Garros Stadium, the Porte de Versailles exhibition park, Paris Aréna II and the Villette Live Site as well as Olympic Family Hotels at Porte Maillot and many training sites. It also links numerous sports facilities in the vicinity of the green belt, the woods at Boulogne and Vincennes as well as 85 parks and public gardens. The trail connects with the major metropolitan walkways along the banks of the River Seine and the canals and serves residential neighbourhoods with their very varied populations. Apart from this the Green Belt Sports Trail crosses numerous projects of urban renovation and development operations which, in the context of the creation or redefinition of their public spaces are able to integrate sports and cultural facilities.
This programme plan, drawn up in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the Olympic Games Mission and the Paris City Departments for Green Spaces and the Environment (DEVE), for Youth and Sport (DJS), of Urbanism (DU), of Information and Communication (DICOM) and the Office for Equality, Integration and Inclusion of the Citizen and Territorial Department (DDTC), aims to predefine the layout of the route and the development and scheduling principles. It is organised into three programme-plans which cover the major issues of initiatives linked to sport, biodiversity, culture and recreational activities.
