Health and the Grand Paris Express

Health and the Grand Paris Express

The gradual entry into service of the Grand Paris Express (RGPE) metro between 2019 – 2030 will create new public transport services encouraging both the general public and professionals to change their travel habits and how they access health care facilities.
As a result, the RGPE and related development projects will have a considerable effect on the health and ac-cess to health care facilities of the population, via a future improvement of public transport services serving over a hundred health centres, a reduction in journey times and new connectins between centres. In order to avoid increasing the inequalities in health care provision, already significant in Ile-de-France, the development of the station neighbourhoods must serve as an opportunity to build greater equality in access to local health care centres. Finally, the RGPE could encourage the use of active ways of getting around such as walking or cycling, which in turn would necessitate a re-think of the way public space and pathways are organised around the stations.
