The count of the fifth Night of Solidarity recorded 2,598 people with no shelter on the night of the 20th to 21st January 2022 in Paris. Compared with the previous Night of Solidarity, the number of people had lowered by 8%. This drop is linked to the increase in the number of accommodation and shelter solutions offered over the past several years.
The Night of Solidarity is an anonymous and objective count of homeless people carried out each year since 2018 by the City of Paris and numerous institutional, association and volunteer partners. The process aims to better understand the geography, profiles and needs of people with no housing solution, enabling public policies to be adapted in response.
Compared with previous Nights of Solidarity, that of 2022 was marked by fewer women and people without personal housing for longer periods of time. The level of use of support and assistance schemes remained relatively low and the needs expressed concerned storing belongings, help with procedures and access to internet.
This night was accompanied by an experimental participation of nine municipalities of Grand Paris Metropolis. Given the interesting results gathered and the success of the operation, this process will be repeated in 2023.
New this year, the analysis of Parisian and Metropolitan results is accompanied by the portraits of homeless people based on interviews carried out during March and April 2022.
A cross-referenced summary of the 5th Parisian and 1st Metropolitan Night of Solidarity accompanies the study.
