The Observatory makes it possible to analyse demographic, socio-economic and urban changes in neighbourhoods of the urban cohesion policy – Politique de la Ville, in terms of Parisian trends.
The Paris Urbanism Agency, Apur, has for several years accompanied the Government and City of Paris in their initiatives to support Parisian neighbourhoods covered by the Politique de la Ville, through producing a range of varied work.
This work is based partly on the Observatory of Paris Neighbourhoods of the Politique de la Ville, first set up in 2006. This statistical tool makes it possible to assess the situation in neighbourhoods in relation to the whole of the Parisian territory, with data available on all IRIS in Paris, enabling territorial comparisons and providing data on changes in order to be aware of trends. It includes more than 150 indicators divided into several themes: demography, precarity, economic activity, education, health, housing and living environment. It draws upon several different data sources, including the INSEE population census data, and other data collected under exchange agreements with different partners such as the Caf de Paris, France Travail, Académie de Paris, CPAM de Paris and departments of the City of Paris. The Observatory’s databases are updated each year and regularly enriched with new data.
The Observatory has regularly been called upon to accompany discussion on the definition of new boundaries, drafting framework documents for the Politique de la Ville and contributing to its assessment.
