This document follows on from the study on the section of the Ourcq Canal stretching from Paris to Sevran (12km aprox. 8 Communes), carried out in 2008 and 2009, a study with three parts and a 4 page summary note.
Apur wanted to complete the work with a contribution that deals more specifically with landscape issues. Issues which are considered to be of major importance to everybody but which still remain to be dealt with and shared.
At a time marked by a movement towards inter-municipality and enormous urban changes, new relationships need to be defined between the domain of public waterways, private land and local authority waterside public spaces in order to allow the territories along the canal embankments to “return“ to the canal, and to develop the landscape and configuration of its embankments to accommodate all their uses (freight, leisure, travel, source of water) at the centre of new business and residential districts.
This document is a contribution to help form a shared vision of the canal's landscape by integrating projects already underway in each of the Communes so that in the future the canal will have a stronger influence on the identity of the territories it flows through.
These new developments rely on the landscape, its uses and environmental challenges as the vectors of the projects' coherence on a metropolitan scale which corresponds to that of the canal's territories.
