Establishments based in Greater Paris - La Métropole du Grand Paris - generate an annual, economic wealth of 280 billion euros. Their wage bill is high, over 121 billion euros, 60% of which come from activity in Paris Ouest La Défense which lies to the west of the capital. Two thirds of these salaries are paid to residents of the metropolis, the remaining third being paid to people living in other areas of the Ile-de-France Region of even further afield. The territories which make up the metropolis can be distinguished one from the other by their dominant economy, the size of their salary flow and the median income of their inhabitants.
