At the end of 2004, there were 1.7 million employees working in Paris. Three out of four jobs are related to commercial activities. Companies in the business services sector are the principal employers in Paris. Within this sector, advice and assistance services are concentrated in the western districts of the city. Commercial and personal services establishments are spread more evenly throughout the capital. Jobs linked to financial services and the State Civil Service are grouped together in the central districts, whereas many main hospitals are situated in the outer districts of Paris.
