Paris has the first solar power registry in France
Within the framework of the European POLIS programme, whose mission is to get urban planners to give more consideration to solar energy supplies, the Department of Green Spaces and the Environment and the Urban Ecology Agency of the City of Paris have made a tool, unique in France, available to all the inhabitants of the capital: a solar power registry, which Apur has been given the task of creating.
This interactive solar power registry gives information about the solar energy potential of every building in the capital (KWh/m2/year) indicating its level of insolation, which it calculates by using a simulation of average annual solar radiation taking into account the effect of shade from buildings and trees. Thanks to a colour code, private house owners as well as public authorities can identify the best places to install solar panels. An advanced research module makes it possible to look in particular for buildings with the greatest solar energy potential. This potential is considered “favourable” if it is above 1000kwh/m2 per year. It is also possible to get a picture of existing solar panel installations.
The solar power registry encourages a more serious consideration of possible solar energy use in the city, whether it be thermal (to heat water) or photovoltaic (to produce electricity).
