The Pompadour commercial and services zone
Urban transformation and development prospects

A focal point of new urban activity and an increasing functional mix, the commercial zone at the Carrefour Pompadour intersection is both complementary to the city centre and like all peripheral commercial areas it crystallises societal, economic and ecological issues.

The Pompadour intersection commercial zone is the setting of significant changes linked to the opening of the Grand Paris Express station Vert-de-Maisons, which in 2025, will connect with the RER D and the application of the Zero Net Artificialisation principle.

At a point where major road networks converge (A86, N6, N406…), the area has all the suburban characteristics, while at the same time it is a part of the Greater Paris - Grand Paris -. The Paris Urbanism Agency and the Chaire du Grand Paris came together to analyse, on the basis of field studies carried out by students from the Paris Urbanism School - l’École d’Urbanisme de Paris - , the changes underway in this commercial zone, which is gradually being transformed by the development work taking place around it. The study sheds light on tensions between the different metropolitan functions present in the area, the project dynamics underway to the north and south and its development potential. The four sectors studied, together form 67-hectares that are highly artificial. Depending on the varying situations, the level of artificialisation (occupation of land by building + non-porous ground cover) wavers between 85% and 95% of the total surface area of land plots.
