Seine embankment : the floating garden is taking shape
The flagship element of the Seine embankment development project, the 1,800 m2 floating garden located at the foot of the Eiffel Tower made up of 5 floating islands, is  now beginning to grow.
This new green space made up of five islands linked by bridges will be accessible to all from the river bank.  L'île centrale (Central Island),  l'île prairie (Meadow Island), l'île aux oiseaux (Bird Island), l'île verger(Orchard Island) et l'île aux brumes (Mist Island) will each offer a specific range of plant life: decorative apple trees on L'île verger, shrubs and grasses to attract birds on l'île aux oiseaux and tall grasses on l'île prairie... This area of vegetation will offer an unprecedented place for walking, closely linking plant life and water and will be able to carry up to 700 people.
The five islands of the garden rest on metal structures based on floats which were built  in real shipyards. These metal pontoons were transported up the Seine and secured to giant stilts built into the low-level embankment upriver from the Pont de l'Alma.
