A slight drop in the population between 2009 and 2014
Results of the 1st January 2014 census
The population of Paris lowered a little during the period 2009-2014 (-0.1% per year), while it had been on an upward trend since 1999.
In the inner ring of suburbs - la Petite Couronne -, the population continued to increase between 2009 and 2014 (+0.6%) but slowed down compared to the period 1999-2009.
In the outer suburbs, the population continued to rise at a rhythm of +0.7% per year between 2009 and 2014 compared to +0.6% from 1999 to 2009.
The decrease in the population in the capital can be explained mainly by the lower birthrate registered since 2010 and by the rise in unoccupied housing units which are made up of vacant housing, secondary residences and temporary accommodation.
