A solar cadastre for Paris

têtière actu – A solar cadastre for Paris

Paris 4th  April 2012

Within the framework of the European programme POLIS, whose mission is to introduce awareness and use of the potential supply of solar energy into urban planning, the City of Paris is piloting the experimental project of setting up a solar cadastre.
This tool, which  Apur is producing, is the first of its kind in France. Based on the simulation of annual sunshine duration, it makes it possible to visualise the potential of buildings' surfaces, providing information on the level of their exposure, and thus identify suitable locations for installing solar panels.
The aim is to address the two aspects of sustainable development and the local production of renewable energy.
This encourages closer consideration of the possible use of solar energy in a city, whether it be thermal (for heating water) or photovoltic (for producing electricity).
In a context of the structural  increase in energy consumption, the solar cadastre will on the one hand allow private landowners (notably the big landholdings) to be sensitized to the issue, and on the other hand it will reinforce public authority action on an environmental but also social (by facilitating access to energy) level.
The Parisian solar cadastre will be online as from the autumn of 2012.
