Swimming sites a heritage of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games
32 sites proposed by local authorities

The study lists 32 potential bathing sites in the rivers Seine and Marne proposed by 26 local authorities. Some of them wish to make available, within a short space of time, permanent bathing sites open for use during the summer months, others, in the medium-term, could propose the gradual development of identified sites for more event-based swimming, or even water sport activities initially.

The study brings together all the sites presented at the “Preparation for the opening of swimming sites a heritage of the Olympic and Paralympic Games” Steering Committee meeting on 21st March 2024, co-chaired by Marc Guillaume, Prefect of the Ile-de-France Region and Prefect of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, the Mayor of Paris and Patrick Ollier, President of the Greater Paris Grand Paris Metropolis - Métropole du Grand Paris -.

Each site, whose geographical borders are sometimes close to each other, is presented in the form of a fact sheet describing it in regard to navigation, the environment and heritage, land occupation of the river banks, the area of water and the quality of the water. These characteristics determine their suitability for use and swimming.

This major project to create swimming sites as a heritage of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games is part of a drive to open cities up to their rivers and improve the  relationship that people living in the metropolis have with the Seine and the Marne.

The study was carried out by Apur with the Prefecture of the Île-de-France Region, the City of Paris, the Greater Paris - Grand Paris Metropolis - and the local authorities of: Chelles, Neuilly-sur-Marne, Le Perreux-sur-Marne, Nogent-sur-Marne, Joinville-le-Pont, Champigny-sur-Marne, Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, Maisons-Alfort, Saint-Maurice, Viry-Châtillon, Villeneuve-le-Roi, Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, Orly, Choisy-le-Roi, Vitry-sur-Seine, Ivry-sur-Seine, Paris, Boulogne-Billancourt, Sèvres, Île-Saint-Denis, Epinay-sur-Seine, Rueil-Malmaison, as well as the territories of Paris-Est Marne & Bois and Grand-Orly Seine Bièvre and the Inter-departmental Sports Park in Choisy Paris-Val-de-Marne, the Syndicate Marne Vive and the Departments CD93, CD94, CD92 and CD91, services of the DRIEAT, VNF, HAROPA PORT, l'ARS, the water agency “Agence de l'eau Seine-Normandie”, the water company Eau de Paris and the Greater Paris sanitation authority SIAAP.
