Two large green spaces in Paris – Champ de Mars and Champs-Elysées
This study presents a prospective diagnosis of two large, green open spaces in Paris: the Champs-Elysées gardens and the Champ de Mars, key features of the monumental landscape along the Seine.
These two much-visited green spaces which form part of world-famous tourist trails, are showing signs of  deterioration and malfunction such that their intrinsic qualities and landscape profile are likely to be altered beyond repair.
This initial document examines the Champs-Elysées gardens and defines its main challenges and possible options for change under the following headings:
  • Landscape and urban structure;
  • The principal components of the landscape;
  • Accessibility and usage;
  • Day-to-day management;
  • Concessions and events.
