Ground covering plays a crucial role in urban microclimatic phenomena. Depending on the urban situations in which they are used, they contribute in various ways to heat islands. In order to understand these phenomena better Apur has been working with the interdisciplinary Laboratory of Energies of Tomorrow (LIED) at the Paris-Diderot University and the City of Paris Department of Roads and Transport Laboratory of Materials Testing in order to test the climatic behaviour of five samples of ground surface coverings in Paris.
This study is one in a series of five notebooks dedicated to urban heat islands in the heart of the Parisian conglomeration:
- Book n° 1: Urban heat islands in Paris
- Book n° 2: Climate simulations and information on three Parisian urban forms
- Book n° 3: Thermal breezes
- Book n° 4: Climatic effects of ground surface covering
-
Book n° 5: Alleviating urban heat islands - Book n°5: Project design methods and tools
