What place is there for young people in the city?

What is youth's place in the city ?

As part of Apur's partnership work program,  this study addresses the question of young people in Paris, aged from 16 to 25 – both those already living there and those moving to the city.

This forward looking study will take place over a two year period and has three parts:
  • Parisian youth and their living conditions: their incomes, jobs, housing and citizenship
  • Youth and the infrastructures on offer: how  the young consider and use sports and cultural facilities
  • New practices: new activities in public spaces,  alternative use of space, shortcomings...
In order to enrich the study with a collective reflection, a work day was held on 28 June at the Pavillon de l'Arsenal, which brought together a panel of experts and people working on issues concerning young people.
François Bégaudeau, the writer, critic and screenwriter and  Valérie Becquet, senior lecturer in sociology at the University of Cergy Pontoise began the day by  questioning the way to approach the issue of young people in a city like Paris.
The different round-tables which followed made it possible to comprehend the new ways young people participate and are mobilised and to question young people's new practices in public spaces and their relationship with the facilities on offer. A period for exchanging ideas gave an opportunity for new issues to be brought up and proposals for action to be suggested.
The Paris Department for Youth and Sport - Directions Parisiennes de la Jeunesse et des Sports- and the City of Paris Policy Department -Politique de la Ville- are Apur's main partners in this work.
