In the context of its partnership program, Apur analyses the impact of an ageing population on the mobility offer and services in order to identify the challenges and possible lines of action. After outlining the demographic forecast, the study qualifies the specific mobility practices of senior citizens by analysing data from the 2020 Global Transport Survey and a complementary survey carried out by Apur in the spring of 2023. The study gives an overview of mobility services available and then quantifies the number of journeys according to the mode of transport by modelling forward looking scenarios and finally identifies 5 issues:
- The comfort and safety of local journeys
- The accessibility of public transport
- The network of mobility services tailored to senior citizens
- Combatting sedentary lifestyles and isolation
- Support for stay-at-home policies
