In response to the growing demand, sports periods are allocated to four categories of users :
- Associations (1.3 million hours during the sports season), first users of sports facilities, offering the possibility of doing one or more activities with supervision. The note seeks to characterise the time slots and the types of public who attend.
- Individual members of the public (1 million hours) also have access to periods in sports facilities to encourage autonomous, spontaneous and free sports activities, with flexible time slots that are inexpensive.
- Schools (850,000 hours) also play a key role in mobilising sports facilities and promoting the sports acculturation of young people in connection with the teaching staff.
- The City of Paris departments, particularly the Department of Youth and Sports, organise sports activities throughout the city (110,000 hours), most often targeting people the least likely to take part in physical and sports activities, thereby fulfilling an essential mission and public service.
The space occupied by these periods reinforces the importance of the sports orientated, green belt. It also reflects the development of sports activities in the heart of the city, as complementary to new uses of public space and the local roots of sports associations.
